Crazy directions for Italy going to Sardinia island

I received a very weird response making a route request for a roundtrip in Italy with the following waypoints:

A) MELZO VIA PALMIRO TOGLIATTI  23  => latLng = 45.488196,9.418415
B) TORINO VIA GUGLIELMO REISS ROMOLI 44/11  => latLng = 45.1100990,7.6940313
C) SASSARI REGIONE SANTA BARBARA 72  => latLng = 40.4197842,8.7696185
D) MELZO VIA PALMIRO TOGLIATTI  23  => latLng = 45.488196,9.418415

The problem arise for the leg going from B to C (and back from C to D) where 6 ferrys are proposed (!!!), while the straightforward solution would be a two way ferry from Genoa to Sardinia or possibly a ferry from Civitavecchia to Sardinia.

Instead the Mapquest route from B to C includes:

1) one ferry leg from Genoa to Olbia (Sardinia)
2) one ferry leg from Olbia to Civitavecchia
3) one ferry leg from Civitavecchia to Arbatax (Sardinia)

What is the reliability of Mapquest routing service when ferry legs are needed ?

Thanks

I don't get a route through
I don't get a route through Civitavecchia. Are you still seeing this?   http://www.mapquestapi.com/directions/v2/route?key=KEY&from=45.488196,9....   Ferry routing is reliable when the data exists. In Europe the routes are based on OSM data. So if any ferry is missing, you can add it.

This is not a ferry issue,

This is not a ferry issue, but it's a logical problem:
If you get in Olbia (Sardinia) by ferry from Genoa it doesn't make sense going to Civitavecchia with another ferry then back from Civitavecchia to Arbatax (Sardinia) with a further ferry then from Arbatax to the waypoint Sassari by route. It's obvious that you can easily reach Sassari from Olbia by route SS127.

If you try to reproduce the Mapquest proposed path you will have evidence that this path i completely absurd.

You can try to use following

You can try to use following page (including Javascript code using Mapquest directions API):

Thanks for the additional
Thanks for the additional information. The avoid link is causing an issue but I don't know why yet. This has been forwarded on to the development team.

Thank you Brian,

Thank you Brian,

I already tried to suppress the avoid linkid collection in the request, but the response behaviour doesn't change: the development team will be able to verify this issue.

I just ask you a question: in case of some solution from the development team will I find their feedback on this thread or somewhere else in the forum ?

Thank you,

Pierluigi
